Thank you so much for visiting my site! My name is Christine Long and I am a middle school art teacher from Maryland. My journey to teaching started many years ago in high school. I had an incredible art teacher in 10th-12th grade who was engaging, funny, and inspiring. He helped me to not only improve my artistic abilities but he also helped me survive school when dealing with crippling anxiety.
After three years of having the same teacher, it struck me… I wanted to “be him” for somebody else one day. So I went off to Towson University, got my degree in Art Education, and stayed in contact with my favorite teacher. After graduation I found out that there was an open teaching position at my alma mater where the teacher that started it all still taught. Fast forward to a few months later and I got the job! I was thrilled to have the opportunity to teach alongside the same person that had inspired me to choose this career all those years ago. I ended up teaching with him for three years and now he and his family are like a second family to me.
My teaching philosophy is that with the right instruction, good systems in place, and hard work, any student can create successful art. I know I’ve done my job when my students are laughing, creating something better than they ever imagined, and realizing that the elements of art are something they can see in daily life beyond the four walls of my classroom.
In my spare time I like to read personal development books, decorate, go shopping, listen to Celine Dion, make art, watch true crime, hang out with my twin sister, and be outside where I can feel the sunshine on my back.
I look forward to sharing ways to stay organized and develop systems for the classroom all while staying polished and “put together”!
